Theodolite HD is a multi-function augmented reality app that combines a compass, GPS, map, zoom camera, rangefinder, and two-axis inclinometer. Theodolite overlays real time information about position, altitude, bearing, range, and inclination on the iPad’s live camera image, like an electronic viewfinder. Uses are endless, and the app is great for outdoor sports, hiking, boating, hunting, golf, sightseeing, photography, and navigation.
Theodolite is used in the field by surveyors, geologists, architects, engineers, military personnel, competitive sportsmen, and search and rescue workers around the world. The app has been featured numerous times in iTunes, and has been the #1 selling Navigation app in the US and UK app stores.
Theodolite HD works on the iPad 2 and new 3rd generation iPad. The app has been graphically mastered to take advantage of the new high resolution Retina Display on the 3rd generation iPad.

Over the years, real theodolites have been used by famous scientists, engineers, and explorers. Lewis and Clark carried a theodolite on their expedition to explore the American west. George Washington, Thomas Jefferson, and Abraham Lincoln used theodolites for land surveying. You can see Jefferson's theodolite on display at Monticello.
In modern times, theodolites are valuable tools in science and engineering, and are used in the surveying and construction industries. The theodolite is a "go-to" instrument for all types of land, sea, air, and space measurements.
